Synopsis
Many years ago, Richard Kuipers started a little removalist business from his home. It was just him, a vehicle and a strong work ethic.

Over the years, Richard, with the support of his wife, Cheryl, grew this business, Two Men and a Truck, into a multimillion-dollar operation that, as of 2022, owned a fleet of 94 trucks, employed 300 people and completed 20,000 moves per year.

Along the way, Richard was joined in the business by Cheryl, his daughters and his grandchildren. That changed everything – because what had been Richard’s prize possession now became a family business. Cue tension, drama and challenges.

To solve the problem, they created a family charter and succession plan. This process involved a lot of hard work and a lot of conflict. But it left both the business and the family in a better place.

Inside the Box tells the story of Richard, his family, and Two Men and a Truck. More importantly, it explains how to build a successful business that you can pass on to future generations.

Title : A must-read!
Review : We’ve all heard that a small business is hard work, but this book gives a deeper insight into the complex business and family dynamics that come into play. It is a delight to read, full of entertaining stories and practical information to get the structures and culture right from the start. If you think you just need a business plan, read this!

Title : Interesting, educational and funny too
Review : Definitely the best book I've read this year. Richard has led an incredible life. What I like is that he not only shares his (many) adventures and triumphs, but he's also willing to admit to a string of setbacks and failures along the way. I'm a business owner too, so I was inspired by the way Richard worked like a demon for many years to build one of Australia's biggest removalist businesses (Two Men and a Truck). Interestingly, it was third time lucky for Richard. He previously owned a deli and a bridge club, but they weren't all that profitable. Most people would've given up at that point, but he was willing to try a third business. I admire his resilience and self-belief. There are a lot of lessons in this book that I'm planning to apply to my own business. This is a great book for business owners, budding entrepreneurs and anyone who likes inspirational autobiographies.
