The Roosters, as the club became known when it joined the VFA, had won four consecutive premierships in the Ballarat League from 1956-59. In the VFA, Geelong West also won four titles - three in Second Division (1964-68- 72) and one in First Division (1975). Over the years Geelong West provided a lot of players to Geelong and many Geelong players transferred to Geelong West. The most notable transfer was rover Bill Goggin, who captain-coached the Roosters in 1972-73 and was non-playing coach in 1974-75 and 1979.
