Synopsis
The Geelong West Football Club represented Geelong West with distinction for many years, playing in the local Geelong league before joining the Ballarat League in 1946 and the VFA in 1963 where it played for 26 seasons. The Roosters, as the club became known when it joined the VFA, had won four consecutive premierships in the Ballarat League from 1956-59. In the VFA, Geelong West also won four titles - three in Second Division (1964-68- 72) and one in First Division (1975). Over the years Geelong West provided a lot of players to Geelong and many Geelong players transferred to Geelong West. The most notable transfer was rover Bill Goggin, who captain-coached the Roosters in 1972-73 and was non-playing coach in 1974-75 and 1979. Other Geelong players to join included George Goninon, Terry Fulton, Les Borrack, Eric Nicholls, Bryan Bushfield, David Harris, Tony Gilmore and Warwick Yates.
