Description

Uganda and Kenya share two things––a border and some of the world’s finest coffee. Up until recently, Ugandan beans were overlooked in favor of Ethiopian and Kenyan, as coffee-growing in Uganda was still in its infancy. But in the past decade, the country has started to shine, and coffee bean importers have noticed.

This bean is grown on Mount Elgon’s farms––about 1,650-2,200 meters in altitude. They’re traditionally washed and patio-dried to produce a decadent, earthy flavor. Certified by the famed Rainforest Alliance, this bean is lauded for its sustainable actions in favor of both people and nature––preserving irreplaceable flora and fauna, providing robust strategies for human rights and livelihood programs, and protecting the overall climate.

Aroma darker than an Ethiopian with a touch of Brazil nut, but sweet and mild, and boasting a deep, earthy,  mouthfeel. Body is light, like most African coffees, but the flavor is rich, with dark chocolate and Brazil nut flavor.

Title : Versatile and rewarding
Review : This deserves its five stars, and is the drink for any time of the day. The nose for me is quite singular, reminding me of "dusty earth"; it is uncomplicated yet complete. This is true for the beans and once brewed. The palate however contains surprises. For a start, the earthiness continues, while presenting additional layers of flavour which for me include morello cherry, providing the backbone for this coffee, and the character (but not the sweetness) of molasses or demerara and has a full mouth-feel that supports drinking black, unsweetened, or, unlike some coffees, this one will not get lost in the fattiness of added milk. This coffee stands by itself, and best drunk without food accompaniment. An absolute winner. Addit: the considerable differences between Andrew's coffees, each and every one of fabulous quality and roasting consistency, saw me buy a second grinder so I can enjoy different coffees throughout the day. Definitely recommended.
