Description
New England Sampler worked on Green Linsey Woolsey

"Most of these samplers were made in the coastal towns of Massachusets up to New Hampshire.

Surrounded by a Greek Key border, this unsigned sampler begins with a classic Quaker style alphabet, A through Z, executed in cross stitch, followed by another in eyelet stitch, the next in rice stitch, followed by an alphabet in four-sided stitch.  Below the lettering is a jumble of flowering plants and a bird.  Two groups of initials flank the eyelet stitched letters WXYZ, which must represent which must represent inititals of the maker's maternal and paternal family members."

This sampler could easily be adapted to include your own family's initials.

The original sampler measured approximately 14" x 18"

Stitch count:  174 wide x 221 high      Stitched on 25 count

Recommended for all skill levels.                    Description and copyright by Marsha Parker      The Scarlet Letter
